Me Va Me - Middle Eastern food!

By kat in ,

JT and I have this thing where we make bets sometimes. It doesn't happen very often, but occasionally we would find ourselves in a situation where our memories would differ about a certain fact. For instance, how many miles are in 100 kilometers (~62 miles) or whether a certain restaurant is on the left or ride side of the plaza or something as silly as how to pronounce a certain word (I am definitely the worst at pronunciations).

The loser simply has to treat dinner sometime in the future. Me Va Me was one of those dinners.

Me Va Me is lovely family restaurant located at Steeles Ave and Bathurst Rd. However, beware of long line-ups and wait times! Especially for large groups. For those in a hurry, there's also an "Express" one just down the street, perfect for take-out.

One of the things I love about Me Va Me is that they have a HUGE complimentary salad that's super delicious too! When I eat out, I often order a meat entree with very little/no veggies and I feel like a bad, guilty child. Me Va Me's large salad solves this problem (and at no cost!).

Complimentary pita with pickles and peppers. I recommend getting their housemade hummus with the pita - it's soo good! It's $6.99 for the hummus but it's so worth it. That thick paste of freshly grounded pine nuts and chick peas... mmm.. It is noticeably different from the store bought ones.

After the salad and pita, I'm usually 3/4 full already. That's how big their portions are (in a good way).

Jerusalem Mix ($14.99) - A mix of boneless chicken thigh, chicken liver, and chicken hearts sauteed with olive oil, onions and our signature blend of spices.

This is the only dish JT and I order when we come here because we can't ever bear to order anything else. This dish is also so delicious that I get random cravings for it. Flavorful and not too oily, I love how well they cook the organs, meat and caramelized onions together with the spices. I'm not a huge fan of organs usually but I LOVE the chicken hearts! They have just the right amount of chewiness without the overpowering iron taste. In fact, I love the chicken hearts even more than the dark meat in this dish - even when I was too full to finish the dish, I tried to find all the hearts and finish them first :)

You also get a choice of side with the options of red skin garlic mashed potato, French Fries, seasonal steamed vegetables, rice, red skin roasted potatoes, and baked potato. I always get the red skin mashed potatoes because they are so creamy and delish. The fries are also very crispy and delectable! Now you can see why I couldn't finish all the food.

The last time we went, our waitress was very nice, friendly and superb hearing (or maybe I just talk too loud). I would definitely recommend this family restaurant for a nice dinner out, whether with family, friends or a date! :)
